Sri Roshy Augustine
Water Resources Department
Message from the Hon'ble Minister
Kerala possesses a strong agricultural background, with the majority of its population relying on agriculture for their livelihood. Consequently, ensuring the provision of efficient and cost-effective irrigation systems, along with their proper maintenance, has become one of the primary responsibilities of this department. The Irrigation Department of Kerala is fully equipped with the requisite resources to accomplish this vital mission.
Since its formation on April 1, 1990, following its bifurcation from the Public Works Department, the Irrigation Department has made significant milestones.. The department's expertise is evident in diverse fields such as Major and Minor Irrigation projects, coastal protection, the construction of salinity barriers, dam safety, river rejuvenation, and the modernization of irrigation infrastructure. Furthermore, the department has achieved another significant milestone by making progressive steps in the efficient implementation of micro-irrigation systems.

Message from the Chief Engineer
Water is our most precious resource. As an agriculture-based economy, Kerala depends on the judicious management and optimal utilization of its water sources.
Through the scientific and equitable use of water, the Irrigation Department plays a pivotal role in facilitating sustainable agricultural development and ensuring food security for the state's steadily growing population and economy.
As the Chief Engineer of this distinguished department, I see it as my foremost duty to set a clear direction and to inspire the collaborative effort required to realize that vision.
