Projects 1

Projects 1 wing of the Irrigation department deals with major and medium Irrigation schemes coming in the Northern Districts of the state. The wing is entrusted with the task of construction, operation, upkeep and maintenances of major and medium hydraulic structures and irrigation networks in Northern Kerala.

The wing is headed by the Chief Engineer, Projects 1 (Cauvery cell) and the headquarters is located in Cauvery House Irrigation Complex, Kozhikode. There are two Circle offices under the Chief Engineer, Projects 1, namely Siruvani Project Circle, Palakkad and Project Circle, Kannur, each headed by a Superintending Engineer. The following Projects/Schemes in the northern part of the state, i.e., from Palakkad to Kasargod, are under the control of the Chief Engineer Projects 1.

The total storage potential of the reservoirs of the above projects comes to 662.62 Mm³. In addition to the above projects/schemes, the envisaged Attappadi Valley Irrigation Project, investigation projects in Kabani Sub basin, Chamravattom Regulator Cum Bridge, and Velliyankallu Regulator Cum Bridge are included under this wing.

The Siruvani Dam, constructed for supplying drinking water to the City of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, is also maintained and operated by this wing in accordance with the Kerala-Tamil Nadu agreement on the Siruvani Drinking Water Supply Project.
