The Pamba Irrigation Project aims at the utilization of the firm discharge of the tail race water of Sabarigiri Hydro Electric Project for the catchment of 287 sq.km.  in the reservoir formed by  a dam across river Pamba at Anathodu and across Kakkiyar at Kakki.  The tail-race water is let into the river Kakkad and is picked up at Maniyar by a Barrage.  The water thus collected is diverted through  a canal on the left bank of the river.

This project irrigates 21135 Ha. (net) out of gross 49456 Ha. of land in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha district through a net work of canal system.  The canal includes main canal of length 20 km, Right Bank Canal of length 20.23 km and Left Bank Canal of length 47.15 km. The Project is declared as completed during 1993.
